We are so sorry, but the class has been cancelled. We will reschedule it at a later date.
Local artist and teacher, Laura Leigh, will provide skilled instruction and guidance to bring the natural beauty and diversity of the Hudson Valley landscape to life. Laura’s method is to create a relaxing atmosphere for students to open up and discover their own innate creativity and confidence. She will share techniques in drawing and painting landscapes that break through the cliches of what landscape art can be, and allow you to express yourself, in your own style. This class is one part basic painting and drawing lesson, and one part “art therapy” as Laura guides you into a calm, meditative mindset and energy that all artists utilize to open the door to unique, personal, creative expression.
This class is for beginner/intermediate painters ages 13+, and all art supplies will be provided, including both acrylic and watercolor paints. Each student will have an opportunity to complete an 11” x 14” painting to take home. We will be gathering at one of Kingston’s most scenic and botanically diverse spots along the Hudson River at Kingston Point Rotary Park, where views of the river, lagoons, lily pads, birds, bluestone, and other natural delights will inspire each student to choose a scene for their own compositions. Brunch beverages and light snacks will be provided by Crimson Catskills, and Crimson founder and Kingston-based landscape photographer, Rosie McCobb, will be on hand to run the brunch table, and share the locations of some great scenes to contemplate and turn into art.
Please park in the lot in front of the dog park/baseball field, and enter the park through the tall iron gates, to the left of the restrooms. We will gather next to the lagoon, at the small, wooden gazebo, less than a 5-minutes walk from the parking lot.
Please dress for the weather, and wear comfortable shoes. Most of the grounds and public restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
